Balance Rock Democratic Free School

Balance Rock Democratic Free School is a non-profit education center in Paxton, MA open to young people ages 13-18. The freeschool is founded on the principles that people need space, freedom and support to explore themselves and their interests. Natural curiousity is the basis of all real learning. Balance rock offers an alternative education environment and support for home schoolers.

Interns have the opportunity to develop plans and instruct classes at the center, which is a beautiful New England colonial-style house, located on a quiet road in the north woods of Jefferson (Holden). The house has seven rooms plus a workshop filled with opportunity for students. It also has a pottery room with a kiln to fire pieces.
