Greater Worcester Land Trust The Greater Worcester Land Trust is a local nonprofit that does land conservation and environmental advocacy in the Worcester area. They broker deals with the state, city, or private landowners to save land in perpetuity for passive and active recreation, wildlife habitat, and watershed protection. They own and/or manage almost 1500 acres of parkland in and around Worcester, including: Cascades Park, Coes Reservoir and Green Hill Park etc. The parks are open to the public and a crew of volunteer rangers helps them monitor the properties for signs of wildlife and use/abuse. Internships are available throughout the year and generally on a rolling basis. This is a wonderful opportunity for an interested student to learn about land conservation and environmental advocacy on a local, city level. They are looking for a mature, self-motivated, responsible individual with a love of the outdoors and interest in helping to build the organizational capacity and improve Worcester's parks and open spaces. Depending on his or her skills and interests, the intern’s tasks might include: data entry, filing, database maintenance, web work, mapping work, photography, publicity, event planning and support, and research and writing. The summer is when they do the majority of their work on the land. The summer intern should be interested in helping out with projects outdoors, such as trail maintenance, property cleanups, and public events. |
