NEADS NEADS (National Education Assistance
Dog Service) is a non-profit
organization that trains service dogs to assist physically challenged and
hearing impaired individuals. They do not train dogs to work with
blind or visually impaired individuals. Interns have the opportunity
to assist professional dog trainers with various aspects of training,
including socialization, obedience work, etc. Interns also have the
opportunity to work directly with clients (the eventual dog owners) and to
do public relations and education outreach if it is of interest.
Because NEADS classes run on a five-month schedule, Dynamy internships may
coincide with the beginning, middle, or end of a class cycle, with duties
varying accordingly. Interns also assist with exercising and washing
the dogs, kennel maintenance, etc. |
