Q:
When's the best time for the Internship Year?
A:
Whenever you decide you'd like to jump off the traditional
academic track and learn what the real world is like. For some people,
that's right after high school. Others come to Dynamy after a year
or two of college. No matter what your situation is, if you're between
17 and 22 then you are the right age.
Q:
What kind of students choose the Internship Year?
A:
They come from all of the U.S., from all academic levels, and at
different times in their school careers. Some are top students,
and others are struggling to see the link between school and
life.
They
all share the desire to do something different from what
they've done for most of their lives to get out of the classroom
and into the real world!!!
Q:
Why not just get an apartment and job
on my own?
A:
For one thing, getting a good job and a decent place to live is
easier said than done. For another, it's hard to make your own unconventional
path with no larger organization supporting you, or friends to share
it with. Supervised internships, advisors, and other interns keep
you going in your Internship Year.
Q:
How will Dynamy affect my prospects of getting into college?
A: In
a positive way. You'll have a better sense of what you want and
where to go after learning about yourself in your year
away from schoolwork.
And
colleges are always interested in mature
applicants who've shown they can do well in different situations.
Q:
How can I be sure I'll want to go back to school later?
A:
We've found that students get so motivated and focused in their
Internship Year that education takes on a new meaning. Most have
a better idea of what they want and they're eager to get to college
to put it together.
Q:
Will I earn academic credit?
A:
Yes, if you want to. Its not a requirement. There are two
ways:
One
In a collaboration with Clark University, Dynamy offers a college
credit seminar to go along with your internships. Through reading,
writing, and discussion you will explore issues to deepen your understanding
of your internship experience. If you participate during all three
of your internships, you will earn 12 college credits.
Two
You can take a course at one of the eight undergraduate colleges
in Worcester.
