Advising

A mentor who walks with you

Each student at Dynamy works closely with an advisor, talking with you individually each week, and also in small groups, informal conversations at fun activities, etc.

Before we go any further in describing advising here, let’s consider the real words of some students about their advisor:

I could talk to my advisor about almost anything and he was always supportive, even when I messed up or was hard on myself.

I just started my first semester at college after Dynamy, and I can still hear my advisor’s voice!

Without my advisor, I wouldn’t have pushed myself, and my worries would’ve limited me to accept ‘good enough’ in my life instead of shooting for great.

Without the advisors this program wouldn’t be nearly as special. They are wonderful!

Your advisor connects with you before you even begin the program, to get final insight into your interests and to introduce him/herself. They’ll set up internship interviews, help you all with the transition to a new city and program, and coach you through each week of the year.

They help you to pursue your goals, reflect on your learning, and to learn to make the best decisions for the life you want for yourself. Depending on the individual student and time of year, advisors wear many different hats (often in the same day!):

  • Advocate
  • Coach
  • Mentor
  • Bottom-liner
  • Teacher
  • Cheerleader

Your advisor encourages you to get the most out of your experiences and to capture your learning in your individual portfolio, which you take with you when you graduate.

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.
