Dynamy
Internship Year is a powerful mix, of work, independent living,
structure, and coaching.
The Basic Elements in chronological
order:
Outward Bound
The
year starts with a three-week Hurricane Island Outward Bound course
in the mountains of central Maine.
In
small groups you'll backpack, canoe, rock climb, and camp. Along
the way you'll learn how to adapt to the wilderness, form new friends,
and you'll become more aware of your own abilities.
As
a result, you'll get a boost of self confidence that comes from
successfully doing something you may have had some doubt about.
Internships
There are all kinds of jobs in the world. It would
take years for you to discover even a few of them on your own.
During
your Dynamy Year you try out three different possibilities. There
are over 200 different internships in business, social services,
government, public interest, the arts, the media, and more.
As
an Intern you work full time in unpaid positions, are paired with
a mentor who will offer
professional supervision on the job, and get a close look at areas
that interest you. View
Dynamy's internship descriptions.
Apartment Living
Buying
groceries, cooking dinner, doing laundry, and getting yourself up
for work are the routines of adulthood.
You'll
share an apartment with other Dynamy Year interns and learn what
it takes to live on your own.
College
Credit
You can earn up to 12 college credits from Clark University by choosing
our college seminar option;
Readings, writing, and weekly seminar discussions will add to your
internship learning. And you’ll get a head start on college credits
Community Involvement
No
matter where you are, you're part of the community you live in.
You have a role in shaping it.
In
Worcester, you'll work with the Dynamy
staff to organize projects that prove that each one of us can make
a difference when we extend ourselves in community service.
Advising
Participants meet regularly with Dynamy's Advisors to review successes,
reflect on experiences, discuss decisions and achieve a deeper understanding
of their own motivations, ambitions, and abilities. Advisors help
set up, support, and monitor internships. Advisors also lead weekly
community meetings for the whole internship group.
